Raising in 2027
Trees traditionally go up around the first of May. Known so far:
- Viktualienmarkt: the new maypole is due to be raised on 9 May 2027 (according to muenchen.de, as of September 2026, without guarantee). Background and figures on the page Maypole at the Viktualienmarkt.
- Maypoles in the city districts: the dates are announced by the individual clubs themselves.
The new tree at the Viktualienmarkt
The 2022 tree was the 14th on that spot since 1962. In September 2026 it had to be dismantled after an inspection by TÜV, the German technical inspection body, a good four years after it went up, and the market has been missing its landmark ever since. The trees are traditionally donated by the Munich breweries.
Around the first of May
The raising comes with a festival: brass music, Brotzeit, the bread and cold cuts that go with it, and the first beer in the open air, usually in the late morning, when the tree is already up and the band is still playing. Where and when there is a celebration is announced by the clubs putting it on.
